Billy Corgan’s Suicidal Thoughts

Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan "almost killed" himself "three or four" times.

The musician has been overcome with dark thoughts on a number of occasions and even started planning his death, but his faith in God always pulled him through:

"I almost killed myself about three, four, seven times. I literally started planning my death and what I would leave behind, and what I was gonna write. Three or four times in my life. What I finally realized, at least on the back end of this, is that God, at least as I understand God, was there all along. Once I was able to process my reality in that way, I no longer felt like a victim."

Billy, 45, has previously told how one of his worst suicidal phases came when he was recording the band's breakthrough album, Siamese Dream, in 1993, on which he famously played almost all of the instruments:

Billy Corgan is Pals with Paris Jackson

Billy Corgan has made friends with Paris Jackson. The Smashing Pumpkins singer was impressed with the 14 year-old's hand painted version of his cover from the band's 2007 album Zeitgeist, and offered her free tickets to see them play.

After she tweeted the picture - which shows the statue of Liberty half submerged in water, painted in shades of red - he jokingly replied, "@ParisJackson I'm glad you liked that cover! Not everyone likes that album haha (sic)" He then tweeted, "@ParisJackson I like you more and more! You'll have to come see us when we play. Not sure where you are but we'll hook you up for passes."

Billy Corgan: Music Is Dumbed Down

Billy Corgan claims the music industry "operates on a dumbing down principle."

The Smashing Pumpkins singer and guitarist feels only a few bands, such as Radiohead, get to keep their integrity and "intelligence" on the records they make. "It's incredible to me how sophisticated people really are when you give them the opportunity to be sophisticated. The music business essentially operates on a dumbing down principle. How dumb do we have to go to sell this record to the most amount of people? There are very few bands who are able to keep their intelligence on record, Radiohead are a good example. They have a very high message and are still very popular. But for the most part the charts are dominated by music that's essentially dumbed down in melody, style, tone, texture, and message because it reaches the most amount of people," he said.

During a concert last night in Tampa, Florida, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan became the latest musician to take a fall while on stage. The singer was in the middle of performing “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” when he briefly smashed to the floor.
